Last financial year, our Welfare Benefits team claimed back over One Million in welfare benefits for 300 older residents across Buckinghamshire.
All 17 of our Welfare Benefits volunteers are fully trained to help older people fill out the complicated benefits forms. These include attendance allowance, pension credit, carers allowance and personal independance payments for people over 60. Our volunteers visit older people in their own homes, which means that everybody has the ability to claim what they are entitled to.
Sue Gehnich, Benefits Officer at Age UK Buckinghamshire says:
"This is a massive achievement and is down to the fantastic volunteers who give their time to help our clients. Attendance allowance forms in particular are long and complicated and it can take volunteers up to two hours to complete just one form for a client."
This service takes huge pressure off the older person and gives them peace of mind. The extra money helps them stay in their own home for longer as well as pay for the things they might need.
