Government restrictions in Bury (11/9/2020)

For more information on the situation in Bury, go to https://www.bury.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=15594

From Monday, people in England are not allowed to socialise in groups of more than six. This means any plans to reopen activities at the Jubilee are put on hold for the time being.

If the infection rate increases and we must close our cafe and shop, we will communicate this by an email newsletter, Twitter and Facebook.

The Jubilee Café

Our Cafe & Window Sales are now open Monday to Friday from 10.30 to 2.30.

Our charity shop on The Rock

Our shop at 91 The Rock, Bury is now open.

Covid-19 restrictions means that the maximum number of customers allowed in the shop is SIX at any one time. We are asking all customers to sanitise their hands before coming in and to wear face coverings, unless medically exempt from doing so. We are reducing our opening hours to allow for more time to clean the shop and restock.

Our hours will be

  • Wednesday: 10.30 am to 3 pm
  • Thursday - Saturday: 10.00 am to 3.00 pm.

Donations of goods

We can accept a limited amount of donations at the Bury shop. We must store all donations for 72 hours before we can sort them and space in the shop is limited. Please phone 0161 761 2780 to check we have space before you set out.

We are unable to collect and we can not take items at the Jubilee Centre.

Recipes for the microwave

Eleanor kindly sent in these easy-to-make recipes for doughnuts and cup cakes. Enjoy!

Microwave Doughnuts Recipe

Ingredients:

2 tbsp (1oz/30gms) Butter

4 tbsp self-raising flour

1 egg yolk

2 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp milk

½ tsp baking powder

¼ tsp ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon jam/honey/chocolate spread

Cinnamon sugar to garnish

Method:

  • Place butter into a microwaveable mug and microwave until just melted (roughly 20 seconds)
  • Add in the remaining ingredients, mix well with a fork until just combined.
  • Once the batter is mixed, pace the spoonful of jam down into the batter to get a jammy centre.
  • Microwave on high for 45 seconds or until it is firm on top. Cooking time depends on depth and width of mug.   Always keep a close eye on your mug while in the microwave so it doesn’t overflow or overcook.
  • Take carefully out of the microwave using oven mitt or cloth.

Tip: Measure in advance

Microwave Cup Cake

Ingredients:

4 tbsp self-raising

4 tbsp caster sugar

3 tbsp cocoa powder

1 medium egg

3 tbsp milk

3 tbsp vegetable or sunflower oil

A few drops of vanilla essence or other essence

2 tbsp of chocolate chips, nuts, raisins, etc (optional)

Method:

  • Add flour, cocoa and sugar to a large mug and mix
  • Add the egg and mix in as much as you can, don’t worry if there is any dry mix left.
  • Add milk, oil and vanilla essence and mix until smooth
  • Add chocolate chips if using.
  • Place in centre of microwave and cook on high for 1½ to 2 minutes or until it has stopped rising and is firm
  • Take carefully out of the microwave using oven mitt or cloth.

Tip – measure in advance

Thank you to Eleanor.

The Quiz

Last week’s quiz was anagrams of British Writers and Actors. Click on this link to find the answers.

This week’s quiz is British Prime Ministers and British Rock & Pop groups.

The quiz is just for fun. We sadly don’t have any prizes but you get the glow of success, if you get all the answers right. Good luck!

Next week, the editor will be off on holiday, so the answers will be online in two weeks’ time.
