Remembering Armistice

Published on 09 October 2018 12:39 PM

This year is the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice between the Allies of World War I and Germany.

We are holding three events at the Jubilee Centre to mark this milestone on Saturday 10th November 2018

A) Commemoration

There will be minute’s silence around the Clarence Park Lido at noon to remember those who gave their lives for our country.

Ten silhouettes will be positioned on the benches surrounding the Clarence Park Lido. These have been donated by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust and represent “those who are there but not there”. We are asking the public to stand in solidarity with the silhouettes to remember.

After the silence, “The Last Post” will be played by a member of the Besses Boys' Band.

Poppies and tributes may be left by the silhouettes or at the cenotaph in front the Jubilee Centre. We are asking that people join us at 11.45 for 12 noon.

B) The Naafi Café

We are inviting veterans of all wars and military service to a meal at the Jubilee Centre from 12.30 to 1.30. The meal will be based on recipes from WW1 and served by volunteers from Age UK Bury and Bury Soroptimists.

Invitations are available on request from The Jubilee Centre – please phone 0161 763 9030 or email

c)  A Concert by the Besses Boys' Band

The world famous Besses Boys' Band are a 2nd Section brass band based in Manchester, North West England. Established in 1943 they are a local band providing music services to the local community and beyond for 75 years.. We are grateful they are able to join us for Armistice 2018. The concert will take place from 1.30 and end around 3.30. At the interval, oatcakes and parkin will be served by Bury Soroptimists.

Limited tickets for the concert only will be available to the general public for £5. Please purchase tickets from The Jubilee Centre reception.
