Greetings from a very sunny Clarence Park!

We hope you are keeping your cool with this unusual weather! Enjoy the warmth but please remember to stay cool and hydrated! For more hints how to stay away from the GP and hospital during this time, please check out the advice we received from Bury Public Health https://www.ageuk.org.uk/bury/our-services/coronavirus/news-extra--are-you-ready-to-beat-the-heat/

Our newsletter is early this week, so we can promote the forthcoming Party in The Park, taking place on Saturday 23rd July. We will be showcasing some of the great activities that take place in the centre and offering people a taster session on the day.

We have new dates for the next “Living Life to The Full” course and if you are interested in this, please book quick as places were snapped up last time.

Happy reading!

Our Café will be open from 11 to 3.30, serving hot food, sandwiches and drinks.

The Bury Metro Marine Modelling Society will be displaying their fabulous handmade model boats on the steps of the Lido.

There will be stalls outside the centre. If you would like to book a table, visit the Jubilee Centre reception or call 0161 763 9030.

We will be holding a raffle and we would welcome any donations for prizes. Bottles of wine, beer and spirits always go down well as do chocolates, sweeties, and nice smellies for the bathroom! Please pass donations to the Jubilee reception.

The Friends of Clarence Park are holding a range of activities around the Bandstand and Green Café. Bloco Ashe samba band will be performing and there will be circus skills workshops with Circus Sensible. Roch Valley Radio will be there, along with a range of stalls.

There is a lot going on and fun for people of all ages. Please do join us!  Let's hope the sun comes out for us all!

Living Life to The Full

This is a new six-week course which aims to help you make a difference in your life. At each session, you will learn how to improve how you feel when you are feeling low or stressed and discover how to tackle problems in your life.

Our trainer is Marie Graham, who has occasionally taken Melanie’s Yoga class at the Jubilee and she has extensive experience of working positively with groups.

The course starts on Thursday 18th August 2022 from 10 to 12 noon. These sessions are limited to 10 people so please book quickly to avoid disappointment. The charge is £2.50 to cover room costs.

To book a place, please contact Diane or Leisa at the Jubilee Centre Reception, call 0161 763 9030 or email admin@ageukbury.org.uk

These sessions are being supported by Bury Council’s Health Improvement Fund and the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership.

Thank you to The Rossendale Senior Citizens Association

We were sad to learn that The Rossendale Senior Citizens Association decided to close down. In winding up the charity, the former trustees chose to transfer their remaining funds to Age UK Bury to support The Jubilee Centre and Café, the Information and Advice Service and the Befriending Service.

On 7th July, John and Jean of the Association presented Christine Brookes, a trustee of Age UK Bury, with the cheque to the value of  £9,067.69.

Our thanks go to the trustees of the Association, and we will put the money to very good use to support local people.

Clarence Park Lido

Regulars at the Jubilee will have spotted dead fish in the water over the last few months. The Environment Agency has investigated it and reports that measures have been taken to reduce the numbers of dead fish.

One of the steps being taken is increased signage around the Lido asking people not to put feed for the wildlife directly into the Lido, but to feed the birds on the bank. Food items thrown into the water simply adds to the problem.

Scam Gas Safety Checks

Bury Trading Standards have received a report about a resident being cold called by a male who said he was from Bury Council and had come to do a gas safety check.

The resident did not allow him to enter the property. When the resident asked the male for ID he panicked and left.

Please always ask for ID if someone comes to your door on business.
