Age UK Bury runs four "Friends Together" groups to bring older people together. Our groups are aimed at people, aged 65 and over, who rarely see anyone from week to week or need a little extra support to get out for the day.

This is an opportunity to meet up over lunch, enjoy activities together and have some laughs. Our groups are currently based in the north of Bury, Prestwich, Whitefield and Radcliffe. We can offer transport and we provide a lovely two course meal.

Our groups support :

  • residents of Ramsbottom and the north of Bury, who meet on Mondays;
  • residents of Prestwich, who meet on Tuesdays;
  • residents of Whitefield, who meet on Wednesdays;
  • residents of Radcliffe who meet on Thursdays.

Our clubs operate between 10 am to 4 pm.

Our activities include arts and crafts, dominoes, bingo and board games. We run regular days out and enjoy parties throughout the year.

Our clubs are small and friendly. We limit the numbers of people to 20 people per day.

As part of the service, we provide door to door transport in our minibuses. Our minibuses are specially adapted with a tail-lift to help people in wheelchairs, and those who need the support of a frame or walking sticks, to use the minibus, without climbing any steps. This costs £4.00 for a return journey.

We provide a hot, homemade two-course meal which costs £5.00. We are able to cater for people with dietary needs.

This service is open to people who live in the borough of Bury, who are over 65 and not in receipt of care services from Bury Council.

For more details, please contact our office on 0161 763 9030.

We are grateful to Bury Council for their support with funding for this service.
