The Jubilee Walkers are a very successful and harmonious group with 85 names on its current telephone contact list.
All walk leaders are volunteers and are registered with Age UK Bury.
We organise two walks each Wednesday. There is a medium walk of up to 7.5 miles and a longer walk of 8+ miles.
Winter walks are arranged to start close to Bury because of the shorter days but advantage is taken of longer summer days to go further afield such as the Trough of Bowland, Yorkshire Dales, Cheshire and North Derbyshire.
We operate a car sharing system with petrol contributions from passengers. At the start of each walk, the leader outlines the length of the walk and alerts walkers to any special features such as mud, and busy roads.
You need good walking boots and wet-weather clothing. Each walker is expected to take personal responsibility for their equipment and their health and stamina. Each walking group carries first aid kits, mobile phones, maps and GPS equipment.
A list of walks is available from the Jubilee Centre reception desk. Please pop in for a copy.
The Walkers Group runs social events through the year, including coach trips, buffet lunches nad Turkey and Tinsel holidays.
