New Outdoor Activities Launches

Published on 24 July 2018 12:21 PM

On Thursday 19th July, an event was held at Boughton Cricket Club in Chester to launch new Dementia and Carers services in Winsford and Chester.

Cheshire and Warrington Carers Trust, Age UK Cheshire and Alzheimer's Society are working together to reduce social isolation amongst people over 50 with Dementia and their carers. The project is funded by Brightlife Cheshire and aims to develop sustainable dementia inclusive communities.

The launch event was a great success. Activities surrounding a Seaside theme were facilitated with a fish and chips lunch.

Attendees were able to choose from a variety of activities which reflected the opportunities offered by Cheshire and Warrington Carers Trust and Age UK Cheshire.

Cheshire and Warrington Carers Trust had arts activities that gave a taster of the art workshops that they will be running in partnership with people living with dementia and their carers. Age UK Cheshire had outdoor themed activities focusing on the natural world and natural colours to give an idea of what could be incorporated into the seven new outdoor activity groups and to demonstrate that being active outdoors involves active use of not only the body, but also the senses and mind.

Kate Bibby, Outdoor Activities Co-ordinator commented:

‘We are so excited about the new Outdoor Activities Service.  It will really show that a diagnosis of dementia does not mean that you can no longer spend time outdoors being active and doing the things that you love. Working with our partners, Cheshire and Warrington Carers Trust and the Alzheimer’s Society, will allow us to draw on each other’s strengths and expertise to enable more people to live well with dementia.’
