We believe in sociable social care - and we are going to make this happen in Cheshire! We are currently piloting our 'Home from Home' Day Care service for small groups of older people in Northwich and the surrounding area.
Our key focus is to support people who are socially isolated and may be experiencing memory loss and other symptoms associated with dementia.
An Age UK Cheshire ‘host’ will pick up guests from their home and transport them back to the host's home where they will spend the day together, with up to three other guests. The day will be relaxed and informal, with opportunities to catch up on news, connect through a game or puzzle and enjoy some home cooked food. There is no fixed agenda and the day will flow at a pace that suits all.
Home from Home will welcome those with mental health issues, including dementia, the physically frail and socially isolated.
The service will provide:
- Flexible day care, from a comfortable, home based setting.
- Stimulating activities to promote social interaction and independence
- Respite and reassurance for carers and families.
- An opportunity to share a joy for living!
- The chance for carers to take a break and get some 'me time', safe in the knowledge that their loved one is being well cared for.
All our hosts will have an enhanced DBS check, a food hygiene certificate and will be given safeguarding and equality and diversity training. Our hosts will have access to a 5 door car for transport and home suitability checks will be carried out. Hosts will be employed and directly managed by Age UK Cheshire staff, so that you can be assured of a quality service and the wider support that our organisation can offer.
Hosts will not be able to provide personal care.
There will be a fee of £52.50 per day which includes all refreshments and transport. Our pilot will be running on Wednesdays and Fridays in Northwich from late April 2019.
