On Thursday 6th Sept, Newquay Day Services donated 385 poppies to Truro Wool for their Bridge of Remembrance. A bridge which commemorates the centenary of World War 1. The bridge goes from St Marys Mews to Old Bridge Street Car Park in Truro.
Newquay Day Centre volunteers and staff have spent the last few months knitting and crocheting in their spare time, helping Truro Wool reach their 10,000 poppy target. “Creating the poppies for such a worthwhile project has been a real pleasure, I have enjoyed creating every single poppy,” explained Mo Westall, one of our valued volunteers working on the knitting project.
Truro Wool is in the process of creating a number of panels to hang from the bridge, which should begin to take shape in November.
Julie, Truro Wool, stated “I have been completely amazed by the generosity of people in making and donating hand-knitted or crocheted poppies. We have already smashed our original target of 10,000 and hope to extend our installation over the St Mary’s Mews bridge to include a stretch along the banks of the River Allen. This is going to be a truly outstanding display."
Julie would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone that read this press release, please join them at 12.30pm on 11th November to show your support at the official opening ceremony.
