Beautiful Butterflies for 'Dying Matters' week

Published on 01 May 2019 10:20 AM

The lovely ladies from 'Ruby Tuesdays' and 'Newquay Day Services' have been really busy knitting these beautiful Butterflies for the Palliative and End of Life Care Teams at RCH.

The Butterflies will create a string of butterfly bunting to reach around RCHT, West Cornwall Hospital in Penzance and t Michael's Hospital in Hayle. The bunting will mark the start of Dying Matters Week, commencing on Monday 13th May. The Butterfly Scheme is an initiative that aims to enhance end of life care across the Trust.

We want to say a huge thank you to the Ruby Tuesday's & Knit & Natter groups for there very kind and thoughtful gifts.

How to get involved:

Individuals can contribute as many butterflies as they would like – groups of friends or family and even craft groups might like to join butterflies together to contribute to the bunting. After, the crafted butterflies will then be available for a donation to The Butterfly Fund, part of Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, which enables the purchase of items and equipment such as guest beds, audio equipment, home comforts.

Ways to get involved:
  • Knit or crochet butterflies simple patterns are provided but you are encouraged to get creative! (up to 20cm wide)
  • If you would like to contribute a few then ideally we ask that you connect the butterflies together onto a backing tape with a 1” gap between.
  • Offer to act as a drop off point for butterflies.
  • Offer to collect donations for butterflies after the main event. This will involve having a collection tin and small stock of butterflies at your location.
