Lady Cowie opens our East Stanley charity outlet

Lady Cowie came to East Stanley to officially open our new Charity Outlet at Betjeman Close on Wednesday 23 October 2019.

We were delighted to receive a grant from Lady Cowie which has enabled us to adapt space in our Resource Centre in Betjeman Close to create a welcoming shop to sell preloved items at great value.  Robyn Holmes, CEO of Age UK County Durham said ‘We are extremely grateful to Lady Cowie for supporting the charity outlet and the delivery of activities for the residents of Stanley. We are hopeful that local people will work with us and let us know what they would like to see happening the in centre so that it is well used and valued.’

Lady Cowie spent time looking around our charity outlet before cutting a red ribbon and declaring the new shop officially open and joined us for afternoon tea with staff, volunteers and local residents.  Lady Cowie was delighted to come and said ‘This facility with its shop and community centre in Betjeman Close is a marvellous resource. Much praise must go to the hardworking staff and the wonderful volunteers without which the charity could not deliver such amazing activities. I have really enjoyed meeting so many lovely people who use the centre.’

The East Stanley Charity Outlet is adjacent to East Stanley Primary School and is open from 10.00am – 5.00pm every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. At least 80% of the clothing, toys, accessories and bric-a-brac are priced at £3.00 or less and all funds raised will be used to support older people in County Durham.
