LGBT+ Over50s County Durham

Published on 02 August 2021 10:11 AM

A recent report found that 43% of older LGBT people had no idea where to get support. A new group based in Durham City seeks to rectify this.

LGBT+ Over50s County Durham http://www.lgbt50durham.org.uk/ is a social group for older LGBT+ people – if you would like to meet new friends, give them a call.  Their meetings are held monthly in Durham City in a safe environment with privacy assured and are inclusive and supportive.

LGBT+ Over50s County Durham aims to provide a safe social space, free from hatred, prejudice, and discrimination, for all LGBT+ people of a mature age in County Durham and surrounding areas. They strive to be open, supportive, and inclusive and are available as a consultation group for individuals and organisations within the communities that they are a part of.

The group first originated in May 2010 as a part of Age UK County Durham’s Engage programme. In February 2020 the group decided to become independent and have been meeting regularly using Zoom. They are now meeting on the second Wednesday monthly in County Durham. You can contact the group by email at lgbt50durham@gmail.com or call 0191 303 8604 and leave a message.
