Under the new Care Act, wherever there is an appearance of care and support needs from any individual, the local authority has a legal duty to carry out an assessment of those needs which promotes that person’s individual sense of wellbeing. If it is then identified that you are not able to fully understand or participate in this process and you have no suitable person to support you in making your views and wishes known, the local authority has a further legal duty to provide you with an Independent Advocate.
How we work
The advocate will assist you to fully participate in your review, assessment or safeguarding meeting, ensuring that your views, wishes and feelings are heard.
If you are unhappy with the outcome of any of these processes, your advocate will support you to make a complaint or follow the appeals process.
To access this support you need only to request it from your Social Worker or, for more information, please contact Age UK Coventry’s Information & Advice Service on 024 7623 1999
