Nursing home director, Jagdip Bhathal didn’t make life easy for himself when he set out on his first-ever charity walk.  Accompanied by his wife and three children, he trekked on behalf of Age UK Coventry, from the pretty village of Rydal, in the Lake District, and climbed 1258 feet to the Fairfield Peak before returning to the hamlet, made famous as the home of William Wordsworth.

But on top of this 10.4 mile walk he also completed another challenging 13.5 miles the following day around the Northwest side of Lake Windermere and back to Ambleside, raising the handsome total of £550 for Coventry’s leading charity dedicated to helping the City’s older people.

As director of the Haven Nursing Home, since it opened at Ash Green since 1986, Jagdip is well aware of the issues and support needed by older people and decided that his first walking challenge would benefit them.

He said, “As people get older many of them need to access some of the many dedicated support services that are provided by Age UK Coventry. It was a wonderful experience for me and my family in a most beautiful part of the country and it was great to be able to raise much-needed funding.”

Jagdip has now got the fundraising bug and, as a keen cyclist, may do a sponsored cycle ride as his next challenge.
