The campaign so far

Our Rule Out Abuse campaign took place between 2011-13 and influenced the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act.

We continue to support older people through safeguarding and abuse issues.

39,000 older people in Wales are believed to have experienced abuse in their own homes.

We need to do more to make sure that elder abuse is tackled with the priority it deserves.

Together, we can Rule Out Abuse

To mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, 15 June 2012, we delivered the Rule Out Abuse charter and all the signatures of support to Gwenda Thomas AM, Deputy Minister for Social Services.

You can see photos of the handover by visiting Age Cymru's flikr page.

There were nearly 6,000 signatures of support, calling for elder abuse to be treated with the priority it deserves.

We are extremely pleased the Welsh Goverment intends to introduce a new law to protect adults from abuse.

Now we need to make sure this law is strong enough to deliver the support and protection so needed.

The Rule Out Abuse charter

The Rule Out Abuse charter calls on the Welsh Government to commit to three principles which should underpin all work to protect adults at risk of abuse:

• Prioritise safety

• Protect from harm and respect choices

• Promote the right to dignity and respect
