We’re delighted to be working with Sporting Memories Foundation on a project set up to promote the mental and physical wellbeing of people over 50, using the power of sport as a focus to engage those, in particular, who’re living with dementia, depression or are socially isolated.
The project is weekly volunteer-led clubs taking place at a range of local sports clubs, community venues, through telephone circles and online, using archive images of sport, memorabilia, and news reports to trigger fond memories of playing or watching sport.
As well as reminiscing about sport and allowing group members to tell their stories through sporting memories, the clubs include exercise and the playing of accessible sports to increase physical activity levels of beneficiaries.
Full training is provided which is fun and informative and volunteers receive amazing ongoing support. It just gives another opportunity for people in the community to come together and we all know what a difference this can make.
We’re looking for volunteers to run the telephone circles, online and face to face clubs. If you’d like more information please send us an email to and we’ll get back to you.
