Spread the warmth with our Winter Celebration grants

As part of our national campaign Spread the Warmth we're encouraging applications for a ‘Winter Celebration’ grant of up to £150 from new and established groups, so that older people can come together for a social occasion between 1 November 2017 and 28 February 2018.

It’s not uncommon as we enter later life to lose those we hold very dear to us, family, friends, colleagues and neighbours who we’ve known for many a year. For some of us, as our children have grown and flown the nest they may have relocated to other parts of the country or even globe. We may find our contact with others limited and we may have fewer opportunities for social events or celebrations. It may be that we have time for ourselves but no one to share this with in a meaningful way.

Social connectedness is so important for all of us at any age and stage of life but is particularly important as we enter later life. Social connections give us the opportunity for emotional support, material help, and information that we need to thrive and enjoy quality of life and good health.

The Winter Celebration grants programme is open to applicants from across Wales. It's hoped that through this, people will have an opportunity to meet new people who share their situation. In previous years, our grants helped to fund Christmas dinners, Chinese New Year celebrations and theatre trips and has enabled older people to establish new friendships and/or nurture existing ones.

Last year we awarded a Winter Celebration Grant to Chepstow Singing for Fun group. The group invited us along to film their celebration and we saw, first hand, the difference our grant makes.
