Angharad Phillips, Health Officer for Age Cymru, said: "We very much welcome the report's recommendations on how the health and housing sectors can work in partnership to tackle cold-related ill health. Each year in Wales, 1000s of older people enter hospital as a result of cold-related illnesses, resulting in huge costs to the NHS and our social care system. The number of excess winter deaths among older people is totally unacceptable.
"At Age Cymru we endeavour to raise awareness of the health risks associated with cold homes as part of our winter health and resilience campaign 'Spread the Warmth but we know it is a huge problem and one we cannot solve on our own.'
"With temperatures beginning to drop, we would urge all older people, particularly those with underlying health conditions, to take the necessary precautions to keep themselves warm, safe and well at home this winter.
