2012 local authority elections

Published on 01 May 2012 09:00 AM

With the 3 May local authority elections almost upon us, Age Cymru is calling on candidates to champion older people's issues, as our Chief Executive Robert Taylor explains:

"Age Cymru want to ensure that older people are not suffering disproportionately because of the budget cuts we're experiencing in the current economic climate.

"We understand that councils across Wales are under increasing pressure to reduce their spending, but it is vital that communities the length and breadth of the country remain places where older people are valued, respected and cared for.

"They must have equal access to services and be empowered to take an active part in society right across Wales.

"Older people have also told us that they want frontline care services to be protected; that they want to feel safe during the winter months and that public toilets must be a higher priority for authorities up and down the country."

Read Age Cymru's 2012 local authority election page and find out how candidates can become an ambassador for older people.
