Have you thought about making a New Year's resolution for 2017? Why not pledge to get yourself a carbon monoxide alarm for your home and to check it every week?
Carbon monoxide is a dangerous gas which we can't see, taste or smell and every year in the UK carbon monoxide kills 50 people and injures around 4,000 others.
And yet only between 5 per cent to 10 per cent of homes in the UK protect themselves by having a carbon monoxide alarm.
Get yourself an audible carbon monoxide alarm with the Kitemark and European Standard number BS EN 50291 on it in every room of your home where there is a gas appliance - it will flash and sound an alarm if it detects carbon monoxide.
Once you've fitted your alarm, make sure you check that it's working properly by pressing the ‘Test' or ‘Reset' button every week.
