Age Cymru Crisis Appeal

Published on 27 November 2012 04:00 PM

When disaster strikes, older people are among the worst affected - this is why Age Cymru is launching its Crisis Appeal.

We want to raise as much as we can as part of the coordinated response to the floods to help over 60s across Wales whose lives have been devastated by the spate of floods that has hit the country.

There will be older people who have lost not only the day to day items of life, such as clothes and furniture, but also those personal possessions which invoke a lifetime of memories.

Age Cymru wants to support those older people who have lost everything to the floodwaters to start to rebuild their lives.

Age Cymru's Chief Officer Robert Taylor OBE says:

"We have heard stories of homes of older people in north Wales being flooded, particularly around St Asaph, Gwynedd and Anglesey, with residents being evacuated by ambulance.

"Over the last week older people in Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Swansea have been affected.

"This morning a small estate of older peoples' bungalows in St Asaph were under four feet of water.

"Residents had no opportunity or place to move their possessions and furniture and may have lost everything.

"Age Cymru wants to help over 60s who have been affected by these floods to rebuild their lives -you can help us change that, right now.

"Please donate to the Age Cymru Crisis Appeal - all money raised will go to older people in need through our local partners and local organisations such as Care and Repair."
