AM to visit our Scams Awareness Project

North Wales AM Aled Roberts will be visiting Age Cymru's Scams Awareness Project on Friday 6 June.
The Mold-based project helps to tackle scams against people with dementia.
Says Aled Roberts:
"As the number of older people in the population grows, politicians need to take action against the abuse of older people, but we need to learn more about this problem.
"Age Cymru is an established and respected campaigner in this field and I hope to learn from their experience running the Scams Awareness Project.
"Identifying the scale of the problem is difficult because so many older people are suffering from dementia.
"Their ability to identify that criminals have targeted them is limited so how Age Cymru tackles this problem will be of great interest."
Age Cymru's Scams Awareness Project currently operates in Denbighshire and Conwy as well as in South Wales.
The project's headquarters is Age Cymru's Mold office, where our ‘Safeguarding' programme is also based.
Louise Hughes, Age Cymru's Safeguarding Manager says:
"Age Cymru looks forward to welcoming Aled Roberts AM to our ‘Safeguarding' programme and the Age Cymru Scams Awareness Project.
"Our research suggests that 50,000 scams a year are carried out in Wales and an estimated 39,000 older people suffer some form of abuse or neglect.
"Clearly, elder abuse and scams against older people are both very serious problems and it is a concern for Age Cymru that they are both so commonplace.
"Tackling elder abuse and scams against older people is a priority for Age Cymru and we look forward to discussing these issues with Aled."
