Care system needs reform says Age Cymru

The Welsh Government must set out how much older people will have to pay for social care.

Speaking to BBC Wales's Sunday Politics yesterday, our Head of Policy and Public Affairs Graeme Francis commented:

"Successive governments in England and in Wales have waited a long time to make reforms [to this system of paying for social care] and we've come close in the past and nothing has happened.

"This time, it looks like some concrete reforms are happening in England, so I think it's incumbent on the Welsh Government to now press ahead with designing its own plans and putting them out there so that people in Wales have equal certainty over care costs as people will have in England.

"We think it is within the Welsh Government's gift to design a system for Wales that benefits people who are the least well-off the most. Age Cymru is not convinced that the English reforms do that and the Welsh Government now has an opportunity to take a distinct path on this issue."
