Dangerous winter health myths

Is it safe to sleep with your window open in the winter and is a warm bedroom bad for your health?

The answers to these questions and others are included in our new leaflet called ‘Don't leave yourself in the cold this winter'

"It's a common myth that sleeping with your window open during the winter is good for you, as is the idea that a warm bedroom is bad for your health", says our Spread the Warmth campaign coodinator Angharad Phillips.

"Sleeping with your window open during the winter months means you're likely to breathe in cold air which raises the risk of chest infections, heart attack and strokes.

"And a warm bedroom - ideally heated to 65 degrees Fahrenheit or 18 degrees Celsius, is actually good for your health", adds Angharad.

"We have produced this new leaflet to address these and other myths so help older people across Wales keep warm, safe and well during the winter months."
