'Delivering End of Life Care' plan

Published on 18 April 2013 09:30 AM

Commenting ahead of an announcement today by Health Minister Mark Drakeford about plans to improve end of life care for terminally ill people in Wales, Age Cymru's Policy Advisor Amy Clifton says:

"Age Cymru welcomes the Welsh Government's commitment to improving end of life care as older people currently experience unequal access to specialist end of life care or ‘palliative care'.

"Traditionally many older people- even those with illnesses such as cancer, have been denied access to specialist care and have not been given the choice and support over key issues such as where they wish to die.

"It is our hope that the ‘Delivering End of Life Care' plan will address these inequalities.

"Age Cymru feels strongly that everyone who needs palliative care should have access to it, and end of life needs to be an integral part of care planning for all older people with chronic and long-term conditions."
