EDF price rise announcement

Published on 12 November 2013 02:00 PM

Commenting on today's announcement by EDF Energy that it is putting up its average gas and electricity prices by 3.9%, Age Cymru's Director of Influencing and Programme Development Victoria Lloyd says:

"This price rise will be a concern for many energy customers across Wales.

"Although the increase is lower than those announced recently by some of the other major suppliers, it still means higher energy bills.

"Winter can be harrowingly difficult for thousands of older people and the ever increasing cost of energy bills adding to worries about being able to keep warm and well this winter.

"It is important that older people are able to keep warm, because cold temperatures can be very dangerous to their health.

"This is why Age Cymru is calling for action from government, the energy regulator and the energy companies to come up with sustainable solutions to make sure that everyone can keep warm when the temperatures start to drop."
