Emma to run the Gwanwyn festival and programme

Published on 06 September 2013 12:30 PM

Age Cymru has appointed Emma Robinson to run Gwanwyn - our Wales-wide arts festival and arts programme for over 50s.

She is our new Arts and Creativity Development Officer and will be curating and developing the Gwanwyn festival for over 50s and programme.

Emma is a former touring officer with Hijinx Theatre who has also worked with Brotfabrik arts centre in Berlin, Comic Relief and Cardiff Council.

Says Emma:

"I am really excited to be working on Gwanwyn for Age Cymru.

"This role provides fantastic opportunities to contribute to artistic work and developments throughout Wales.

"I want to get more older people involved in the arts and also hope to challenge preconceptions about what it is like to grow older in Wales, by working in partnership with artistic organisations and community groups.

"Ultimately, I want to make Gwanwyn the ‘go-to' festival for people of all ages living in Wales and wider."

Gwanwyn is our arts programme for over 50s which runs a month-long festival held across Wales each May to celebrate creativity in older age.

It is run by Age Cymru and funded by the Welsh Government and Arts Council of Wales.

Commenting on Emma's appointment, Claire Bottomley, Age Cymru's Healthy Ageing Manager says:

"We are all absolutely delighted at Age Cymru to have Emma onboard to run the Gwanwyn programme and festival for us.

"She has the creativity and drive to take the Gwanwyn programme and festival to places they have never been and make them bigger and better than we have been able to do before.

"I'm really looking forward to working with her and I'm pleased to have her on my team."
