Internet health checks for over 50s

Published on 05 February 2013 11:30 AM

Commenting on the Welsh Government's pledge to introduce internet health checks for over 50s, Age Cymru's Head of Policy and Public Affairs Graeme Francis says:

"Age Cymru supports the Welsh Government's intention to introduce health checks for people aged 50 and over and we hope these checks will help to identify potential problems earlier and to support people to live healthy lives for longer.

"The Government is right to identify that accessing checks online will not be right for everybody as, in general, the older a person is, the less likely they are to use the internet.

"But for health checks to be truly effective they must be accessible for everyone and this is why we believe the Welsh Government will need to work hard to target people in the most need of advice and support, especially those who would not usually seek medical advice."
