It's Age Positive Week

Published on 28 September 2015 07:30 AM

It's Age Positive Week this week and Wales is celebrating all the best things that there are about age and ageing.

Age Positive Week runs from Sunday 27 September to Sunday 4 October and it aims to tackle negative stereotyping of older people and ageism in society.

During Age Positive Week there are events taking place across Wales - from an older people's eisteddfod, dance classes, knitting sessions, to a quiz and a fancy dress competition.

These are happening in care homes, schools, charity shops, the great outdoors and other locations around Wales.

Says Victoria Lloyd, Age Cymru's Director of Influencing and Programme Development:

"This is the second year we're running Age Positive Week, and so far it's looking like it's going to be even bigger and better than last year.

"We've had interest from right around the country from organisations and individuals who want to be part of the Age Positive Week celebrations and are organising an event. We'd like to thank everyone for their hard work and support.

"Age Positive Week is a fantastic way for us all to celebrate the positive aspects of ageing and the contribution older people have made and continue to make to our communities.

"You too can join in the fun -there's still time to organise your own celebration, or badge your usual activity as an Age Positive Week one. Why not show your support by attending an event in your area?

"Or perhaps you'd like to enter our Age Positive photography competition?"
