Jury service age limit to rise

Published on 14 November 2016 10:30 AM

Age Cymru has welcomed the UK Government's announcement that the upper age limit for jury service is rising from 70 to 75 on 1 December.

"We are pleased that the jury age limit has been raised to 75 - it is a step in the right direction of removing the hurdles that can potentially restrict the opportunities available for older people to contribute to and play a full part in society" said our director of external affairs, Victoria Lloyd.

"Judging someone on the basis of their date of birth alone is wrong and it risks overlooking their unique skills, knowledge and experiences. This announcement is a positive development and a strong sign that wider society is adopting a positive attitude towards age and ageing."
