Keep Well This Winter campaign launch

Published on 13 October 2014 10:30 AM

"GET ready for winter" - that's the message today as we launch our Keep Well This Winter health and wellbeing campaign for Wales's over 50s.

Keep Well This Winter provides information and advice to older people over the winter months about staying healthy and warm.

Our colleague Claire Bottomley says:

"Keep Well This Winter is an annual, Wales-wide winter health and wellbeing campaign for over 50s that Age Cymru coordinates for the Welsh Government.

"The purpose of Keep Well This Winter is to make sure that older people across Wales are keeping warm, well and safe during the winter months.

"We're launching this winter's campaign with advice for over 50s on preparing  yourself and your home for the winter months.

"These include things such as getting your flu jab; claiming all the financial support you are entitled to receive; getting your electric blanket checked and having your boiler serviced."

Commenting on today's launch, Dr Ruth Hussey, the Chief Medical Officer for Wales says:

"Each winter cold temperatures contribute to poor health. To stay healthy, I urge everyone to be active and keep warm. It is also important to look out for older relatives, friends and neighbours during the winter.

"Getting a flu jab is one of the simplest and most effective ways of protecting our health during the winter, especially for those with chronic conditions and long term illnesses."
