Keep Well this Winter film

Published on 26 October 2012 12:00 PM

With temperatures set to plummet to - 2 degrees Celsius in parts of Wales tonight, Age Cymru is launching our first ever Keep Well this Winter film.

It offers advice to older people about keeping well, keeping warm and keeping safe over the winter months.

Claire Bottomley, Age Cymru's Healthy Ageing Manager says:

"Winter is undoubtedly on its way, with forecasters predicting a cold snap with arctic air tonight, frost and temperatures dropping as low as 2 degrees Celsius to - 2 degrees Celsius.

"We're launching our film today to coincide with this drop in temperature to remind older people of the simple things they can do to keep themselves healthy over the coming months."

The Keep Well this Winter film looks at the following issues:

• The importance of having your flu jab;
• Keeping a store of medication;
• Food cupboard essentials;
• Home safety checks;
• Community alarm;
• Keeping your home warm;
• Keeping yourself warm;

Claire Bottomley concludes:

"This is quick and simple guide to keeping well over the winter months.

"Most of what we're saying is common sense and easy to implement, but it's always good to be reminded of the simple things we can do to look after ourselves once the temperatures start to drop."
