National Old Age Pensioners Association of Wales

Public toilet closures will be on the agenda at the National Old Age Pensioners Association of Wales (NOAPAW) annual conference and rally in Porthcawl next month.

The meeting will also discuss ways local authorities can stop older people from falling over and injuring themselves on dangerous pavements.

Hundreds of pensioners from across Wales are set to descend on the seaside town on Wednesday 5 June for the event at the Grand Pavilion.

Baroness Gale of Blaenrhondda - the National Old Age Pensioners Association of Wales's national president is one of the speakers at the event.

Older People's Commissioner for Wales Sarah Rochira is also speaking and will be delivering her ‘state of the nation' report to conference.

Emlyn Lloyd, General Secretary of the National Old Age Pensioners Association of Wales says:

"Public toilet closures and dangerous pavements have both been high profile priorities for older people across Wales over the last 12 months.

"Our organisation has campaigned for action on these and other issues through our work with groups including the Welsh Senate of Older People, and we'll be updating members on these activities on 5 June.

"This year's conference and rally will also give our members a chance to question the Older People's Commissioner for Wales about her work to improve the lives of older people across the country.

"Any individuals, groups or organisations interested in joining the National Old Age Pensioners Association of Wales - or just want to find out more about us, are welcome to come along on the day."

The National Old Age Pensioners Association of Wales annual conference starts at 11.00am and its annual rally begins at 2.30pm.

John Davies will chair the annual conference and the Mayor of Bridgend will deliver the opening address.
