Published on 06 July 2012 07:30 AM

Neath Assembly Member Gwenda Thomas is backing Age Cymru's work to protect older people from scams and dodgy traders.

Our ‘Protect yourself from doorstep scams' door hangers are now available from her constituency office at 7 High Street, Pontardawe, SA8 4HU, 01792 869993.

You can also get them by conatcting Age Cymru on 029 2043 1555.

Gwenda Thomas AM said:

"I'd like to congratulate Age Cymru and WPD for teaming up to produce these door hangers.

"Older people need to be able to feel safe and secure in their homes.

"These door hangers are an ideal way to give older people the confidence of knowing how to deal with unwanted callers and identifying scams and cons.

"I'd recommend them to anyone, and we have a limited number of these door hangers available from my constituency office, so please call in and pick one up."

The bilingual door hangers are printed with messages to help older people protect themselves from scams at their front door.

They contain eight handy tips on doorstep scams and postal scams.

Our Safeguarding Programme Manager Louise Hughes says:

"Scams can have a devastating effect on older people.

"This is why we've printed eight handy tips on them to remind older people about what to do if an unexpected caller knocks their door, or they get a scam letter in the post.

"We hope the door hanger will empower and protect people and help them to feel safe and secure in their own homes."
