Out and about this summer

Published on 10 August 2011 11:00 AM

Over the past three weeks Age Cymru has been exhibiting at two of Wales most prestigious events - the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells and the National Eisteddfod, which this year was held just outside Wrexham.

Both events were extremely busy with more than three thousand people visiting our exhibitions which focused on the benefits of internet technologies for older people.

Michael Phillips from Age Cymru says:

"We showed people how to shop on-line for the best deals and how to set up email accounts to help older people keep in touch with friends and relatives.

"We even had some fun with a software package that showed how younger people may look when they are older.

"Thankfully we had the support of Western Power Distribution and Elior Catering so we could offer all our visitors a free cuppa and light refreshments."

At the Royal Welsh Show we also held a demonstration to highlight the benefits of Nordic Walking for older people which attracted more than 700 visitors.

Both events provided us with ample opportunities to meet and greet various stakeholders and decision makers in Wales including the Welsh Government's Presiding Officer, Rosemary Butler AM, Eluned Parrot AM, and the Older People's Commissioner for Wales, Ruth Marks.

We also conducted interviews for both television and radio from our exhibitions.

Now that all the excitement is over, it's time to plan next year's activities.  See you then!
