Pensioners Forum Wales

Commenting on calls made today by Pensioners Forum Wales for cheaper energy for older people, Age Cymru's Director of Influencing and Programme Development Victoria Lloyd says:

"Age Cymru agrees with Pensioners Forum Wales that nobody should be afraid of the cost of keeping warm during the winter months.

"However, with fuel poverty - where a household spends 10% or more of its income on heating, affecting an estimated 320,000 households in Wales, the cost of keeping warm is obviously a significant problem for many of us Wales.

"Income and energy prices are two of the main factors that lead to fuel poverty, and the affordability of energy is an area needing attention.

"Action is needed by the Welsh and Westminster Governments to tackle fuel poverty and the causes of fuel poverty, so that none of us have to worry about turning up the thermostat during the cold winter."
