Review into Lilian Williams's care

Published on 31 October 2013 04:00 PM

Age Cymru has welcomed a pledge from the Welsh Government's Health Minister, Mark Drakeford, to hold a review into Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board following the neglect of Lilian Williams.

Commenting on the move, our Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Graeme Francis says:

"When we entrust the care of our loved ones to the authorities, we must be certain that they will receive care that is of the highest level - anything less is a betrayal of that trust.

"We firmly believe that where there is evidence of serious failings in care standards, no stone must be left unturned in the quest to find solutions to prevent such situations happening again.

"Our health services must treat respond to a patient's full needs, rather than just individual medical conditions, and it is not acceptable for patients to suffer dehydration or other forms of neglect whilst being cared for in our hospitals.

"This is why Age Cymru welcomes the Health Minister's decision to launch a review into standards of care at ABMU Health Board and the tragic circumstances suffered by Mrs Williams and her family."
