Special celebration at the Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff on 3 October 2017

Published on 22 September 2017 10:00 AM

As part of the Wales-wide celebrations for Age Positive Week (1 - 8 October 2017) Age Cymru is hosting a special event at the Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff on Tuesday 3 October 2017.

Supported by the electricity company Western Power Distribution (WPD), the celebration will feature a community choir, hula hoop workshops, hair styling, hand massage, Tai Chi plus some great jazz music. There will also be stands providing advice on healthy ageing, handyvan, our information and advice service, financial products as well as WPD's free Priority Service Register.

And as Age Cymru is celebrating its 70th year of supporting older people, there will also be complimentary tea, coffee and cake for everyone.

The first session of the celebration will run from 10am to 12pm and the second session from 2pm to 4pm. Visitors are welcome to attend either session but please register your attendance with the charity beforehand.

Age Cymru's Deputy Chief Executive, Victoria Lloyd explains: "Age Positive Week takes place during the first week of October as it coincides with the UN International Day of Older Persons on 1 October. Both events help to celebrate all the many positive aspects of ageing, and highlight the huge contributions that older people make to our communities. And the fact that this year is also our 70th anniversary of working with older people in Wales is just a wonderful bonus.

"The celebrations also acts as a reminder to the wider community to include all age groups in their everyday activities and thereby help tackle the plight of loneliness that still affects thousands of older people in Wales.

"So if you are in the area on Tuesday 3 October and have an interest in issues affecting older people, please pop in and say hello."

WPD's Corporate Communication Manger Paul Bishop said: "We're delighted to be supporting this event as not only does it give older people an opportunity to get out and socialise in the community but it also gives ourselves and Age Cymru an opportunity to make sure older people have access to the information they need to get through the forthcoming winter".

To register your attendance please contact Age Cymru on 029 2043 1555 or email agepositive@agecymru.org.uk
