Supporting the Don't Dance Alone campaign

Published on 17 October 2017 02:00 PM

South Wales based radio stations The Wave and Swansea Sound, proudly supported by Gower Gas and Oil have created the #DontDanceAlone campaign to highlight some of the difficulties currently facing older people in Wales.

Working closely with Age Cymru, the radio stations have produced information bulletins on issues such as loneliness, scams, dementia and also some of the innovative solutions undertaken by local care homes and community groups: https://www.swanseasound.co.uk/news/local/waveswansea-sound-dont-dance-alone/

They have also produced a very emotive video showing a girl growing up, starting from her first ballet class, to her then later in life dancing with her partner. Sadly, after her partner passes away, she finds herself dancing alone until her grandchild comes to her rescue. Fitted out with brand new dancing shoes, the two start waltzing in the kitchen to the very emotive track called 7 Years by Lukas Graham.

Throughout the whole of October, the stations will be urging their listeners and the public via social media, to take a short video of themselves dancing with an older person and to post it to the radio stations' social media platforms, together with a donation to Age Cymru.

The stations are also working with Age UK, Age NI and Age Scotland as they would like the campaign to go viral and get as many people as possible dancing with older friends, relatives and neighbours.

In three easy steps you can be part of the #DontDanceAlone Campaign:

1. Dance with your grandparents, parents or an elderly neighbour and film a short clip

2. Share on Facebook and #DontDanceAlone

3. Donate to Age Cymru. Text 'Jive17' with your chosen amount to 70070.

Gower Gas and Oil are also donating £5 to Age Cymru for every completed boiler service booked in 2017 http://www.gowergas.care/
