Talking Sense report

Published on 19 June 2012 11:00 AM

Commenting on a report published by Consumer Focus Wales today that says post offices need to make it easier for people with sight and hearing loss to access them, Age Cymru's Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Graeme Francis, says:

"Age Cymru welcomes today's report - Talking Sense, as is an interesting contribution to the ongoing debate about the future of the post office network.

"Post offices are an emotive issue and the findings of Age Cymru's Community Calculator survey in 2010 clearly demonstrated that post offices are much-valued by older people in Wales.

"The Community Calculator also revealed that many people have difficulty accessing money and key financial services in their local communities, which serves to demonstrate the vital importance of providing a range of services in post offices.

"This report from Consumer Focus underpins the need for post offices and similar facilities and services where they exist, to meet the needs of everybody in the communities they serve, including people with sight and hearing loss."
