The Gwanwyn Festival's back this May

Published on 16 April 2014 01:30 PM

Wales's only annual national arts festival for over 50s is back for its eighth year on May 1.

The Gwanwyn Festival from Age Cymru celebrates arts and creativity for older people.

Every May, it promotes four weeks of events across Wales which give over 50s the chance to take part in and enjoy the arts.

Emma Robinson, Gwanwyn's Coordinator says:

"The Gwanwyn Festival is back this year with another packed and stimulating programme of arts, events and experiences for over 50s right across Wales.

"Among the delights on offer this year is the official festival launch in Theatr Harlech, Gwynedd on 1 May.

"Enjoy a live performance from Gwyn Vaughan Jones from Pobol y Cwm and Torchwood and enjoy some complimentary refreshments.

"There's a dance performance premier at Sherman Cymru, Cardiff on 18 May, bringing together older people's dance groups from across Wales - and that's just for starters.

"There are also showcase events taking place in Galeri, Caernarfon; Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff; Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Mold.

"There's something for everyone, so look out for the Gwanwyn Festival guide in your local paper over the next fortnight, or log onto the Gwanwyn website - www.gwanwyn.org.uk, for details of events taking place near you."

The Gwanwyn Festival is run by Age Cymru with support from the Welsh Government and the Arts Council of Wales.
