Vote Age Cymru!

Published on 14 May 2012 09:30 AM

Age Cymru is delighted to announce that it is in the running to secure £15,000 funding from grant organisation, People's Postcode Trust.

With the help of the Welsh public, Age Cymru could secure enough votes to win the £15,000 funding and transform their services.

Age Cymru is asking the people of Wales to take part in the free Vote that Counts campaign and decide where a total of £20,000 should be spent.

The campaign launched on 13 May and voters have until 22 June to cast their vote.

As well as the top prize of £15,000, a further £5,000 will be divided amongst five runner-up charities.

Nia Butler, Age Cymru's Individual and Community Fundraising Manager says:

"We're asking the people of Wales to get behind Age Cymru, the national older people's charity for Wales, and vote for us in the Vote that Counts campaign.

"Your vote could help us to provide information and advice for older people, their families and friends, on how to recognise abuse - from financial abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse, neglect and sexual abuse, and where to go for help.

"An estimated 39,000 older people in Wales suffer from some form of elder abuse and this cannot continue.

"Please help Age Cymru to tackle elder abuse by voting for us in the Vote that Counts."

The Vote that Counts is a unique competition run by People's Postcode Trust in partnership with four key Welsh media titles.

Age Cymru is competing against 11 other Welsh based charities for the chance to win the fantastic sum of money.

To vote, simply visit votethatcounts.org, where there is dedicated information on the campaign and the charities taking part.

The Vote that Counts campaign is also backed by Scott Quinnell, People's Postcode Lottery ambassador and former Welsh rugby legend.

He says:

"I'm delighted that the Vote that Counts has come to Wales.

"Players of People's Postcode Lottery have long been supporting Welsh communities, but this campaign gives you, the Welsh public, the opportunity to decide where that support goes.

"By simply registering your free vote online you can make sure one charity secures £15,000. The hard part will just be deciding which of the 12 fantastic charities you think most deserves the funding!"

As well as having a page on the dedicated Vote that Counts page, Age Cymru will be using its Twitter and Facebook pages to generate as much support as possible.

Age Cymru is asking as many voters as possible to share the website page with friends, family and colleagues via email or social media.

The charity with the highest number of votes on 22 June will secure the £15,000 funding.

People's Postcode Trust is funded entirely by players of the People's Postcode Lottery.

Together, players of the charity lottery have raised over £18.1 million for good causes across Great Britain, while playing to win fantastic cash prizes.

The Lottery's Spring Postcode Millions recently landed in Port Talbot, with lucky postcode sector, SA12 6, sharing £2 Million.
