Walk this way

Over-50s can have a taste of Nordic Walking later this month in the beautiful Brecon Beacons.

Age Cymru's Nordic Walking Programme is running a taster session at the Brecon Beacons National Park Visitor Centre - also known as the Mountain Centre, in Libanus on Saturday 13 August.

Glenn Little, Age Cymru's Physical Activity Development Officer says:

"In terms of popularity, Nordic Walking is one of the fastest growing forms of physical exercise in Europe.

"It involves walking with ski-type poles and it has a number of benefits above that of normal walking as it works the upper body as well as the legs.

"Nordic Walking is less tiring than normal walking, and it is a fun way to get healthy, as well as a great social activity to be enjoyed in plenty of fresh air."

Age Cymru's International Nordic Walking instructors are running the Nordic Walking taster session on 13 August.

People attending the session will receive two hours of training in the basics of Nordic Walking technique and be able to take part in a practice walk.

Glenn says:

"We've designed the Nordic Walking taster sessions on 13 August to be fun and informal - you can also bring along friends or family members for company and to join in.

"All our walks and instructions are graded according to the fitness levels of the people taking part.

"Just wear your normal walking gear and all the specialist equipment you will need will be provided by the Age Cymru Nordic Walking team."

He adds: "Booking is essential for this popular event, so please get in touch to find out more about Nordic Walking and reserve yourself a place for 13 August - we're looking forward to meeting you."

If you want to take part in the Nordic Walking taster session, please contact Age Cymru on 029 2043 1555 and ask to speak to a member of the Nordic Walking Team.

The price of the Age Cymru Nordic Walking taster session on 13 August is £3.00 per person, or £5.00 for two people.

Please note that parking charges will apply at the Brecon Beacons National Park Visitor Centre.
