World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Published on 05 June 2014 10:30 AM

Sunday 15 June is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Thousands of older people suffer in many ways - often at the hands of people they trust and in places where they should feel safe and secure.

Elder abuse is when someone in a position of trust misuses that position to take advantage of an older person.

Elder abuse can be financial, psychological, physical or sexual abuse or neglect.

Elder abuse in any, way, shape or form is unacceptable.

Age Cymru wants a better world for older people and an end to elder abuse.

Please remember this World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - Sunday 15 June, that no-one has to put up with abuse.

If you or someone you know is suffering abuse, you can report it to your local council's adult protection team.

If someone is in immediate danger, report it to the police by calling 999.

Thank you for reading this message - together we can make a difference for older people.
