Improving the portrayal of older people in the media - Letter to Editor

Published on 20 August 2020 01:10 PM

Dear editor

Age Cymru with the support of the Arts Council of Wales is looking at the portrayal of older people in media such as radio, TV, newspapers such as this one, and increasingly on social media.

At the end of the project the charity will develop an agenda that organisations can sign up to and use as a guide to ensure they represent the wide variety of older people who live in Wales.  The project will also develop a suite of photographs that organisations can use to better reflect the diversity of older people and promote a more realistic view of ageing.

We would like your readers aged over 50 to get involved in the project by telling us what images they would like the media to use to represent older people.

We would also like to know what words your older readers would like the media to use when discussing older people.

Participants may send their views to the following freepost address by Friday 18 September 2020.
