In our initial research with veterans aged 65 or over in Wales we found that one third of the people we spoke to looked after someone as an unpaid carer.
What is an unpaid carer?
An unpaid carer is someone who looks after, or gives any help or support to family members, friends, neighbours or others because of long-term physical or mental ill-health or disability, or problems related to old age.
How you can help us
The project also wants to know what would improve the quality of life for such carers and the people they care for, and how care providers can improve their services to meet the many unmet needs of unpaid carers.
Veteran can refer to anyone who was a member of any of the UK armed services for one day or more, including national service and reservists, or were part of a military operation whilst in the merchant navy.
We have produced a wide ranging but simple to use questionnaire for veteran carers and their partners to help us in our crucial research.
