The Outreach Service
Age UK East Grinstead & District are developing an Outreach Service to assist older people, in rural areas. We want to help older people and put them in touch with services that can assist. Age UK aim to enhance residents lives by: promoting independence and wellbeing, increase involvement in the community by accessing services and offer friendly support. If residents are feeling isolated, we offer a friendly face and someone to talk to.
This free service places an Outreach Coordinator and volunteers, at the heart of the community, who can support older people that may be reluctant to engage with services. With a rapidly aging population Age UK East Grinstead and District is keen to help combat loneliness and our local volunteers may be aware of residents who are in need. Residents may have the following issues: isolation, health, wellbeing, care or transport to name a few.
We are looking for volunteers in the following areas: Ashurst Wood, Copthorne, Crawley Down, Sharpthorne, Turners Hill, West Hoathly and Worth.
The service might support residents in the following ways:
- help them start an activity such as a walking group,
- assist someone with dementia to join a singing group and inform their carer about support groups or
- supporting local volunteers to set up a social club for elderly people and assist the group while they are developing.
Volunteers will help the Outreach Coordinator to engage with isolated people in need of assistance. So knowledge of people who live in the village would be valuable.
