Our Newham Activity & Shopping Support project helps people to build their skills and confidence to access grocery shopping and participate in activities within their local community by pairing someone with a trained volunteer. This can include online support provided over the telephone and/or Zoom.
What do Activity / Shopping Support volunteers do?
You are matched to a trained and vetted Activity / Shopping Support volunteer who will form a supportive relationship with you to build your confidence and empower you to engage with your local community.
You are accompanied by a volunteer to attend and participate in activities and hobbies such as exercise, creative or learning sessions. This can include online activities, such as those hosted at Caxton Online, our online Community Centre.
For those seeking digital support, the volunteer will be able to assist you with using your digital device, getting online and accessing virtual activities, all with tailored support and within the comfort of your own home.
You are supported by a volunteer to complete your shopping, including groceries and household items, both online and offline.

Please note: Limited Tablet devices and data SIM cards are available to loan, subject to a Loan Agreement and availability.
Who can access the service?
- Residents of Newham
- Age 18+
- Would like practical support to access shopping and/or participate in activities within your comminity, either online or in-person.
