Our Community Response Team volunteers are helping with friendly phone calls and just checking in to make sure everyone is ok.

About this service

In response to the increased needs of older people in East Sussex due to the Coronavirus crisis, Age UK East Sussex volunteers and partners have created a Community Response Team. Working with local schemes and filling gaps where needed, we support older people with our service. At present we can only provide a telephone be-friending service, but we hope to extend this again, to escorted walks, shopping trips and other activities as we come out of the pandemic together, helping older people to get back into their local communities.

How our volunteers can help

  • Weekly chat on the telephone

Who can use this service?

  • Anyone over 55 years of age living in East Sussex

If you would like one of our volunteers to call you for a good chat on the telephone once a week, please call 01273 476 704 and one of our team will match you with a volunteer.

All of our volunteers are recruited through the charity and are all cleared through the Disclosure and Barring Service DBS (formally the Criminal Records Bureau CRB); therefore, only your name and phone number will be provided to them (no other personal details including your address) the volunteer befriender will call from a withheld number at a mutually agreed day and time. We will of course tell you in advance who will be calling you.
