Every year, Age UK Westminster delivers festive cheer to isolated older people in Westminster

Age UK Westminster's Christmas Lunch project has been running since the early 1980s. It's the only scheme in Westminster that delivers to older people at home on Christmas Day.

More than 100 volunteers assemble meals, gifts and personalised cards, which are delivered to the older residents of Westminster. Last year, volunteers made deliveries to 340 isolated older people on Christmas Day, and spread festive cheer across the borough.

One of these people was 93-year-old Alma. Alma's daughter wrote to say how much the delivery meant to her and her mother.

"My 93-year-old mother has dementia, and recently broke her hip after a fall. Since being discharged from hospital she's been permanently in bed and is unable to walk. I have been my mother’s primary carer pretty much since childhood (I am now 55). So due to all this and my health issues, I knew that I would be too exhausted to prepare a small meal on Christmas Day. But angels arrived from your organisation to deliver lunch to us. Thank you all so much for caring, it was so appreciated."
